Remember This?
Before:
After:
Well, Craig and his Dad have been busy bees:
Just another coat or two of drywall compound and then some paint (that's my job).
The two sides were actually not the same size and by removing the cabinet we gained a lot of room and can play with the asymmetry. The other cabinet it going too. The *plan* is the buy a 37" LCD tv and put that in the open space to the right of the "L" and build shelves for all our components and dvds etc. The other side will be more shelves for books and stuff. We're giving it time to see how we like the idea of the tv there (we'll drag our tv stand to that corner once we paint).
I'm just happy to have those curves and ugly insulation gone.

Home improvement feels so good doesn't it?
We have that same fan & parts of our house are painted in that taupey brown I see on the walls there. Maybe Stephanies think alike? ;)

I always thought curved alcoves were neat, but I have to admit the "before" picture looks really jumbled. The whole area looks much calmer now, like it's been freed. The asymmetry is cool.

I really like the fan. I think it will look great when you finish. I hope you will share pictures with us.

It's much calmer. I like it. Gettin rid of other people's ugly work is always so satisfying.

What a difference - it looks so much better!

I love the asymmetrical fireplace, it makes it look so much more like a functional part of the house instead of an artificially applied fireplace that someone stuck in purely for aesthetics. I can't wait to see it all painted out and completely finished!

I am jealous of your fireplace. A fireplace is a must for my next house. Seeing your work really puts me in the mood for a home improvement project!

Oh, boy. That asymmetry would drive me so crazy! I wonder why they did the chimney like that? Your after looks much less cluttered and calmer.

I love it that I'm not the only one that is living in a house undergoing renovations. :-)
Looks great and go for the flat screen TV -- it's much nicer for watching movies.

wow - cheap ass people. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw that they only bricked up 1/2 of the chimney. Sigh. I'm sure it's going to look a million times better when you guys are all done!!
