Finally Fall, time for more shoes

Fall has finally arrived.  It was cool and crisp this morning and I got to wear a skirt with tights and my favourite Le Canadienne boots along with Poppy and my daisy shawl.  While I don't really like very cold weather, I love Fall.  Love it.

The change of seasons also brings along a change of footwear.  Time to break out the hand knits socks and shoes instead of sandals.  I need a few pairs of shoes that are both comfortable and snazzy enough for working in a professional but slightly more casual office (we are in a university so it's not all suits and pumps here).  I rediscovered Danskos this summer (realizing I wear a 41, not a 40 made them a whole lot more comfortable), and it's time for non-sandal versions.

These ones are on their way (and taking their sweet time--I swear the border must be bogged down because of the high Canadian dollar--people here are doing serious cross-border shopping). (Aren't they fantastic?!)

I also need a black pair and I want to go the clog route.  Probably not as officey as they should be, but I have to walk my kids to school (2 km) and walk from the subway another kilometer each way so I need something that can facilitate a 6km walk.  I'm debating between the plain but popular Professional:

Prof

And the kicky cute Marcelle.

Marcelle

I love Mary Janes.  Some of the reviews on Zappos say the seams on these ones chaffe.  Please feel free to weigh in and give me your thoughts.  I was hoping to try some on while in Rhinebeck, but it seems the local shops that sell Danskos don't carry the Marcelle's so I may have to buy through Zappos (sent to my hotel) and take a chance.   Or if you know a place in the Rhinebeck/Kingston/Saugerties area that sells these shoes let me know.

The choices in Canada are really limited and Danskos are about 50% more here so I'm taking advantage of the at-par dollar.  The rest of the kidsilk haze I need to do the earth stripe wrap and the Rowan 42 magazine also fell into my shopping cart.   I'm going to be more of a browser than a shopper at Rhinebeck.

I love my danskos. I have the top one, but in a wine-ish color. I forgot what they call it. I am loving them except I'm so clumsy that I trip a lot. My husband is convinced I'm going to break my ankles.

Danskos are the best! I wear my plain "professional" clogs nearly every day in cool weather. I have Mary Janes, too, but they're not as comfortable. They're great for showing off handknit socks, though!

If you are going to go with Danskos (I can't wear them--the heels are too high and unstable for me, but then I'm not very coordinated) I would go with the MJs. I do a lot of walking too and I find that the closed-back clogs don't stay on my feet as well.

I know they aren't clogs, but earth shoes are AWESOME. i have a pair of mary-jane-like solars(http://www.earth.us/catalog.asp?Gender=women&cat=3) and they are great. (have a pair of charlize in hazel also.) best thing about them (besides they're awesomeness) is that each shoe comes in its own little bag - very handy for knitting!

There are actually two places in Rhinebeck that sell them (one is a tack shop, though) and one in Saugerties. There is a shop finder on the Dansko website that gives a few more in the area, too.

I also love fall! And I recently bought some cute, comfortable mary janes at Browns, they are the Browns/Brava brand and fit like a dream on my weird feet. Next week I'm wearing tights and a skirt for sure - can't wait.

All of those shoes are great! I really like the patterned shoes, though they might compete a little too much if you want to wear your handknit socks with them.

I finally got myself a pair of Dr. Scholl's shoes to show off my handknit socks and it is just great being able to wear them all over the place.

That top pair are very cute and you can't go wrong with some classic black clogs or MJ's! I do have one pair of Dansko's (sandals) and like them a lot but recently started wearing Keen shoes...also a sort of MJ style and they are really comfy for walking...they have a few other styles out this year which are very cute....but sigh I can't justify buying another pair!

I really like those first shoes, and could use something like that for work. I also really want a pair of Blundstones.

I am at this moment wear those Danksos Mary Janes. I find them really comfortable - just make sure they fit (you're supposed to have your heel be able to comfortably move up and down with each step). I ordered them from Zappos, and had to return my first pair because they were a little too small. I do find that if I don't wear socks, occasionally the seam will chafe my foot, but not all the time - and wearing socks makes them better.

Love Danskos! I have two pairs of their sandals, which is all I wear during the summer (they last forever, too).

I don't have any of their shoes yet (they're pretty expensive), but those brown ones are great!

I love the look of Danskos, but (as others have mentioned) the heel is really unstable. They really aren't very good walking shoes. After rolling my ankle, tearing the tendon, and spending 8 weeks in a cast-- my physical therapist recommended Sanitas instead. They look and feel remarkably like Danskos, but have a bit of a wider sole, so they're more stable. They also look a little nicer, because they don't use staples in the construction... www.sanitaclogs.com

I don't have Danskos...I have Mephisto black clogs that I LOVE. But I also just bought Soft Walk clogs that have the same sort of patterning as the one's you bought. I don't know if you can get this in Canada, but Amazon has a shoe store called (I think) Endless and right now they are overnighting and giving you back $5! Dangerous!

I have the Dansko professionals - and I LOVE them for work - I got the purple ones.... WHAT is the name of the top one - I MUST FIND THEM!!!

I adore Danskos. I have Professionals in Black and Brown, and boots (these ones: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/20345095/c/208.html) in black for when I need boots/heels. Contrary to other people who've commented, I find the clogs extremely stable, and I'm a total klutz with bad feet and ankles. I walked about 6 miles in mine the other day on uneven pavement, and no tripping or pain!

I wear my professionals in my business casual to business dress office environment (I'm a college admissions officer...ie the most dressed up office on campus). They're also my shoe of choice for flying...easy to take off for security, but great for speeding through the airport.

Wow, I completely love that first pair of shoes! *covet covet covet*

Get the Marchelles. You will love them. I had no issue with the seams and wore mine to death. Actually they're still wearable but they look reeeeally worn.

I love love love that first pair!

I have a black pair of Dansko Raphaels that I wear to work and they are great. I work in a semi-professional business environment and often walk to the bus stop. They are nice enough to wear to work and comfortable enough to walk around in. I really would like to order another pair of Dansko shoes in a different style to add to my collection!

my red marcelles are my favorite shoe ever. always get compliments when i wear them. never had any seam chafing at all. the only trouble i had is that the plastic heel insert popped out and i took it to a cobbler who basically glued it back in there. danskos are my all time favorites. i have 6 or 7 pairs. they're the best for comfort when walking around or standing on your feet for great amounts of time.

I have a pair of the Margrete mary janes and I love them! They are very comfortable, which never ceases to amaze me given that other Danskos cause me problems (other mary janes, too, come to think of it). Anyway, I walk all over the place in them and find them to be a fantastic pair of shoes.

If you love love love danskos check out the custom painted shoes under the Romney Designs tab at

I've got a pair of the Dansko professionals that I love. The flower pair looks great too, but your last shoe buying spree turned me on to Keens and since I stocked up then I can't follow your lead this time. Sigh.
