Halloween
I love Halloween. It's a low-stress, non-religious, non-controversial holiday. No family fights, no long travels, just a pizza, some costumes and a whole lot of candy.
This year we had a Ninja and a Devil.
Or the more scary version with nifty jack'o'lanterns
While they were out raiding the neighbourhood I stayed home to give out candy. To ten kids. Including my two. This is our first halloween at the house and I guess we're not on the path to Candyland. Just means more for us I suppose. Just a block away they hit the jackpot and came home with this:
It's a lot of candy. A lot. And it's good.
Yes, Craig is pouring sugar into my son. Emma is pouring liquid sugar into herself. That, my friends, is the true meaning of Halloween.

They are SO CUTE. I got like 25 kids, max, but they were adorable so FREAKED OUT on sugar. Love it.

Well, it certainly looks like the kids had a blast, even if you aren't on the cool block. We get hundreds of kids on our street. They actually come in caravans from other (dangerous) neighborhoods so they can enjoy our decorations, candy, and lack of violent crime. I took a whole pack of kids trick-or-treating, and they had so much fun!

May I just say how awesome it is that Emma was a Ninja?

Isn't it awful? We were only one of three houses on our block giving out candy. People can be such poor sports.

my daughter's house (which i used to live in ) got hit enough that she almost ran out of candy and glow sticks (she works for a company that custom imprints stuff, and they got returned, so the boss let them take them home). my husband's house? 6 kids. and of course, my husband had to go buy 5 more bags of candy on top of the two ginormous ones i had bought, plus the bag of toys i'd had left over from last year!
i can just see my husband in a sugar coma every night.
sean was harry potter, and somebody in the neighborhood (we went to my daughter's, lol, no hills there!) was giving out king size candy bars, somene else gave out cadbury caramellos, and one old guy gave out cans of pepsi (he does that every eyar, lol!)
sugar comas are commencing

Hooray for Halloween! The same sugar eating ritual was going on at my house last night!

Was everyone doing the Pogo with all that sugar? I love Halloween, love seeing all the kiddies in their costumes and the parents so relaxed. It is a fun night.
The town holds a Halloween party for the kids every year and we donate money for goodies. And because we donate money we get a sign to put up on our door saying we donated. I guess it stops the soaping incidents or whatever else is deemed trick nowadays.
Mojo, psycho dog, goes bonkers at anyone at the door otherwise we would give out treats. I miss seeing all the ghosts, wizards, and princesses.

I think it's demographics. I bet you're Gen-X like me (late 30s, early 40s), a member of the baby bust, and thus our kids who are trick or treatin' age are in the minority. 10 years ago I had over 120 kids come to my door. This year? 17. My neighbours, who 10 years ago were in their late 50s and early 60s, are now in their late 60s and early 70s, so many didn't have the stamina to shell out, which made the trickle to my door even smaller.
