This summer I started Cliffs of Insanity for the Indigodragonfly Summer Knitalong. I loved this scarf and loved the idea of knitting laceweight but not knitting lace and of trying Habu Silk Stainless. My colour combo was You Punched the Highlights Out of Her Hair! and a lovely plum.
Of course, I got sidetracked and as the knitalong was coming to a close I frantically tried to finish. When I realized that wasn't going to happen. I cheated came up with a cunning plan.
The scarf pattern is a nifty one--there is lots of places to customize and add in random cables. So I just decided to customize a little more as you can see from the fabulous photos modelled by Emma:
The yarn became part of the design, adding texture and depth to the scarf. And the lovely grey circulars work as an industrial-styled shawl pin holding the scarf in place.
The live stitches are another fascinating design detail.
It didn't work in the Indigodragonfly forums either... (but it was fun to do all the scheming!)
So I got knitting and got this scarf finished!
It is a pile of squooshy wool silk goodness. The stainless steel gives it a scrunch-ability (I know, not a word, but you get the picture) that is fun to play with and the random cables made the knitting interesting.
I'm already contemplating another one. Get the pattern and some yummy yarns at Indigodragonfly!

I've been looking for an excuse to work with Habu Silk Stainless. Nice!
