It's not home until there's yarn

My first yarn delivery:

Some Knitpicks notions and Wool of the Andes to sew up Lizard Ridge (I forgot to photograph the contents).  Of course, I also partook in the Lettuce Knit 30% off boxing day sale:

The chunky stuff is Noro Iro to make the Lady Detective Hat from Knit 2 Together.  There's also Fleece Artist Sock Yarn, Trekking and Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock in Rainbow (that's for a friend who wants "really bright" socks).

*Now* it feels like home.

i just made the lady detective hat and it is too big. don't know if it was me or my gauge. i am going to try the grosgrain ribbon trick mentioned at the end of the pattern but if no luck i am going to start over!

I love that hat! It's my list of projects to start next. All the yarn looks great. It really isn't home until the yarn arrives. Welcome home.

Good stuff! I think you exercised admirable restraint. I wish I could get to Lettuce Knit more than once or twice a year. I've been eyeing that Lady Detective hat too, and I have the same Trekking waiting for its turn on the needles. Happy knitting.

NEXT POST
Not HGTV, but not bad Exactly one week ago, the house looked like this (times every room in the house + garage): Two days later, it looked like this: So the move-in-shop-the-next-day-creatively-deck-the-halls-with-tons-of-boxes-Christmas-plan (tm) worked. Everyone was happy when Santa came (he received our change of address). Though I keep eyeing the tree plotting its immediate removal. The house is cluttered enough with all our (huge amounts of) stuff without a tree and decorations. Good thing I have Poppy to sew up to distract me.

Poppy! Poppy is done! I finished it on December 31, laid it by the fireplace and then forgot about it until today (blame hangover and unpacking and general holiday laziness). The last bit of crochet finishing was a bit of a challenge, but with Mom's help and some wine, my tussles with the crochet hook are now forgotten. Playing with the colour and not blindly following the pattern was fun. I did end up with more stripes at the ends (or the back where the seam is) than the front, and my need to control personality took a bit to get around that, but in the end I'm really pleased with the result. A perfect fit--I knit a size smaller than I would normally, so I'm learning what fits! Now to find a deep v-neck shirt for underneath--I love Silk Garden, but not against my skin. A great pattern for great yarn (though Noro should reinstate these colours--they are gorgeous).
