Spring must be coming because it's time to talk shoes. I still love, love, love my Danskos, but I want some colour in my life. Red shoes say spring to me, so these cute Hush Puppies are on the way.
I'm also trying to dress for my next job so the shoe is a little higher and dressier, but not too much (I'm still a recovering academic and I miss jeans and birks--a lot).
I also need some Wellies. I have a super-cute hot pink pair covered in daisies which I bought at <cough> Wal-Mart <cough> but they kill my feet (serves me right I figure). Recently I happened upon the currently trendy but very traditional Hunter boots. They fit my feet very nicely and even provide a bit of arch support. The thing is their "original" boots only fit the chicken-legged calves of emaciated super-models and suck onto my more athletic build like a Dyson vacuum*.
This means I need to move to their alternative styles. I'm stuck between two choices.
I like the length of the original boots and found their Huntress model--though the name sounds a bit Xena Warrior Princess--has a wider calf. They look almost the same as the originals. The main problem is that they only come in Green, Navy or Black. I figured traditional green suits me best.
But...I wanted red, orange or yellow wellies (might as well have fun when it rains) to go with my royal blue and black coat. That leaves me with these cute (and locally available) ones.
The laces are really cute. They're quite short (about 9.5") so not as great for keeping my pants clean. And I'm not so sure how they go with my whole dressing for my next job strategy.
Any votes? Nobody suggest I get both (I already considered that--I really like boots). It better not rain so much this spring that I feel two pairs of boots are necessary.
*My apologies to all the nice more petite types these boots do fit. I really like boots, I always have, and I am really hate how manufacturers seems to think 14" calves are normal sized.
I love the yellow boots!!!! Where did you get them!? Those Hunter boots are amazing. I'd like some of each style......

Hi there. You can get the plain style Hunter boots in a shorter length now, too (sans laces). I've seen them in black and am not sure what other colours they come in.

Yeah had the same experience with the Hunters - they are made for stick legs (and skinny sticks at that). Plus they are becoming somewhat "passe" - being British I've seen them around for ages, just hitting over here I suppose but everyone I know back home sees them as a real "cliche" if you know what I mean, celebs here buy them just because of the label etc........
There is a French company that makes fantastic wellies, they are called CHAMEAU I think - as in Camel? They are sold in all the high end stores and are supposed to last a lifetime, supposedly royalty wears them and they come in all different models, they're pricey though :-(
BTW not sure if you remember sending me all the tech the info on your new LCD TV around Christmas? Well we eventually bought a new TV and our 18yr veteran has been relegated to the bedroom. We copied you and bought the same TV - wer'e really thrilled with it. From now on whemever I need a new (anything)I'm going to get you to buy and test drive first ok? lol

I have the opposite problem with boots. I have huge feet and the manufacturers seem to think that because I have long feet I have huge calves. Almost every pair of boots I wear I could put my fist into the top.
We can never win can we? :)

I'm skinny, but my calves are huge, so I understand. I like the Huntress, in black.

Next job? You have one in mind?

My husband says try mens boots - they make the same he says for men...but personally I know how you feel - my calves ARE NOT the chicken legs calves of our models and it really irritates me that manufactures can't figure that out.
Go with the green - at least your pants will stay dry (albeit a bit wrinkled from the tight fit)

I vote Huntress! I bought some Hunter wellies last year and it's the best money I've spent on footwear in a long time. You can laugh at the ladies tip-toeing around puddles in their heels while you splash through like a warrior princess!

As much as I like the yellow, I'd say go with the green if the point of these is to wear them to work.

Hunter and Le Chameau are great boots (see up Le Chameau - not bad at all)
Yes, it seems that when they are making boots they forgot we have calves, the only one who complaints about calves being too big is a friend of mine.... wearing a size 0-2 !!

Let's hear it for big calves! I'd go with the green, the yellow one's are too much like the boots my mum has and I really don't want to start dressing like my mum.

Oh dear, I have the little chicken calves that rattle around inside of most boots like bell clangers... they're just never quite right, are they?
I ended up buying a pair of Hunters this winter; I got the Festival model in black with red laces. I love them very much, though the sizing was a bit wonky and a size 7 was sold to me as a 36, so they're a titch big. I do find them nice and high for keeping my hems dry, and the tongue is fully attached so nothing comes in that way. Plus - a tiny heel! Yay! I too love my Danskos and it is hard to let go of that 2" boost.

I have the green and love them. Amazingly, they fit my calves which is weird since I ride horses and NO boots ever fit my calves. Good luck.

i haven't been ableto wear fun/cool boots since i was 14 (i ran long distance in high school, and the calves have NEVER gone away). i just got the tape out and my calves are 17". small wonder

If you are seeing the signs of corrosion on the connection cables you can try to clean them with a wire brush or a tooth brush..
